Throughout our time in business, we have faced many challenges with insurance companies. Of course, this is par for the course in our line of work, but you may be surprised at what we have encountered. All too often, insurance companies work against the homeowner’s favor throughout a claim. As a public adjuster, we have your back against the insurance company, working for your best interest throughout the claim.
Today, we will go over some of the challenges we’ve faced with insurance companies, and what these experiences mean for you. Be sure to call Liberty Insurance Adjusters before you file your claim so we can get you the fair settlement you deserve.
What Are Some Common Challenges of Claims
We’ve seen many issues come up throughout claims, and most of them are caused by the insurance company not following their own policy language. Oftentimes, an insurance company may deny claims for unrelated issues or reasons that don’t exist whatsoever.
In certain cases an insurer may link together the cause of the claim with an unrelated issue, using this as a reason to pay less towards the claim or outright deny the claim entirely.
How an Insurance Company Attempted to Deny a Claim (And How We Helped!)
A recent client of ours was experiencing their insurance company working against them. Our client had a bad roof leak, which caused interior damage. The roof was stained from the water damage and the repairs would be costly. The insurance company had offered them $680, you read that right, just $680! These clients had a $1000 deductible, so they had received nothing.
Now, the ceiling was obviously damaged and stained from the leak, but the insurance company was actively looking for any reason not to pay out the full amount. Even though there was clearly a leak, the insurer referred to the damage as “condensation from the AC vent.”
Although this could be a cause of staining on the ceiling, the water damage was not anywhere remotely close to the AC vent. Despite this, they tried to say the AC was the cause, not the water leak.
Outside, we discovered that the exterior of the client’s house was damaged by high winds. This was documented by the weather reports which corroborated the wind as the cause.
Because of all of these considerations, the homeowner was now looking at $44,000 for the claim’s settlement, a staggering number compared to the $680 originally offered.
This is just one example of the ways an insurance company can work against you, and why you should always call a public adjuster… like us! Call Liberty Adjusters today at (813) 922-5129!
Why Would an Insurance Company Use these Practices
This all doesn’t sound like the best business practice, so why would the insurance companies do this?
The fact of the matter is that not enough people know any better, and your insurance knows this. When the person making the claim isn’t well informed, they will just assume insurance is a get-what-you-get
type of process.
This is the game of an insurance company. Many of these insurers use statistics that tell them how many people are going to just take the lower amount without fighting it. For those who do fight the original settlement, oftentimes the insurance company will delay the claim, dragging their feet until the homeowner decides to settle.
People typically don’t know any better, and insurance companies take advantage of this.
